Assistive Technology Loans
Now Available in Oregon
Do you know someone with a disability, living in Oregon, who could benefit from access to affordable assistive technology?
The Board of Directors for the Washington Access Fund announced that they expanded our successful Assistive Technology (AT) Loan Program to include people with disabilities and seniors (and their families) in Oregon. Oregon residents are now eligible for assistive technology loans up to $10,000.
Since 2004, Washington Access Fund has been helping provide access to affordable assistive technology to individuals with disabilities and their families in Washington State. Over the years, we helped our clients purchase wheelchairs, hearing aids, home modifications, vehicle modifications, computers, and more.
“We’re excited to offer Oregon residents the same access to affordable technology and a positive borrowing experience as the rest of our clients,” said Executive Director Jack Brummel. “We know there is a need for increased funding options and we look forward to working with our local partners to help provide them.”
Members of several nonprofit organizations supporting individuals with disabilities in Oregon are joining the Board of Directors of the Washington Access Fund. On January 25, 2016, the Board welcomed Joe Wykowski, Executive Director of Community Vision, Inc. in Portland and Susan McNaught, Ph.D., Board of Directors, Access Technologies, Inc. in Salem.
“This program is important and I’m happy to be a part of guiding and welcoming the Access Fund into Oregon,” said Susan.
Assistive Technology Loans can be used to purchase any technology that improves a person’s functioning and independence including wheelchairs, hearing aids, home and vehicle modifications, communication devices, medical equipment, computers, etc. Loans have a 5% fixed interest rate and no fees. Loan terms may extend to five years. The maximum loan size is $10,000.
Each loan is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Applicants must be able to pay back the loan, and all forms of income will be considered. Eligibility is not determined solely by income or credit history.
